The opening night began with club members JT Ash and Ray Heitzman taking center court and playing brilliantly but coming up just short to an amazingly tough team of Jace Akagi-Okuma and Ryan Murakami 6-2, 6-4.
David Esteva and Kailua favorite Evan Loya proved their worth winning 6-0, 6-1 over Marlon Abarca and John Burns.
Logan Chun and Darin Poei were considered one of the toughest teams in the qualifying tournament. Two weeks ago they lost in the semi-finals of the second leg of the Triple Crown, and they are currently tied for 5th place in the Triple Crown standings. But tonight didn't fare well for the doubles team. They lost in an amazing upset to 12 year old Phuc Huynh and his older brother Quoc 6-0, 6-2. Wow!
The second match on Center Court was a see-saw tussle. Rob Jaeckel and Tim Kelley won the first set 6-1 and were up a break in the second set when Jody Boeringa and Quinn Saine found 5th gear and came back to win the second set 7-6(3). They were 4-all in the third set when the rains came. Join us to watch the exciting conclusion at 6pm Tuesday.
The last match of the evening was also even at one set all when the skies opened. Ryan Adachi and Shermann Alconcel won the first set 6-4, but dropped the second set to Marc Cayetano and Richard Gregory 6-3. This match will also resume Tuesday at 6pm.
