BLUE MOON BUZZ  Fri, July 25       by Bruce Nagel
Your one stop shop for wassup at this year's tournament!
Tonight we played the last of the Qualifying Tournament and the fuzz was flying everywhere! Here's the lowdown:

Jeff and Scott Grimmer played tonight on Center Court. Jeff, the older sibling, grew up playing here at the club and developed a smooth, flowing creative style of play. School and work took Jeff away from the club, and it was a joyous day for us when he moved back to Hawaii and re-joined the club. Then, last year his brother moved to Hawaii and joined our forces. Scott is perhaps the most improved player at the club! The brothers faced doubles specialist Keven Wong and KRC pro Roman Kop. Roman and Keven didn't care that Jeff and Scott were brothers. Roman and Keven advanced to the Main Draw, 6-0, 6-2.

In a spectacular display of talent, the KRC member team of Todd Hall and Kevin Peebles advanced to the Main Draw over 15 year old Sage Katayama and Davin Lee 6-4, 6-0.

Then, Eddie Acuna and Doug Hoshaw from Southern California, the team that had won their previous match 7-6, 6-7, 7-6, won easier this time eliminating Scott Nishimura and Kui Ramos, 6-2, 6-1.

The last match of the night was a true see-saw battle. Up 4-2 in the first set, KRC pro Jared Carstenn and KRC member John Robert Kennedy squandered their lead but buckled down to win the first set 6-4. Then, according to Jared, he became over-confident and before you could say "what happened?" Jireh Lin and Jason Perron jumped ahead 5-1 in the second set. But Jared and Rob didn't go away. The next thing they knew they had won 6 games in a row and were shaking hands at the net. Jared and Rob advance to the Main Draw 6-4, 7-5.

Summary of Results from Friday, July 25
Roman Kop/Keven Wong def.  Scott Grimmer/Jeff Grimmer 6-0, 6-2
Todd Hall/Kevin Peebles def. Sage Katayama/Davin Lee 6-4, 6-0
