Go ahead and roll out the red carpet, as week two of the Creative Energy/Blue Moon Men's Night Doubles kicks off. The stars (a.k.a. the seeded teams) are hitting the courts at Kailua Racquet Club in what will surely be an entertaining week of good, if not great, and depending how easily impressed you are, possibly phenomenal tennis.
Before too many balls get hit, let's pause to take note of how some of these seeded teams, in addition to being pretty not bad at tennis at tennis, happen to look like movie stars/celebrities/Calvin Klein underpants models. On a side note to Bruce, see if you can get Calvin Klein to sponsor next year's event. Players could use a spare pair of quality undies in addition to the tournament t-shirt they get for entering, but the shirt looks nice this year Bruce, good job on that!
Back on track, let's start with Ikaika Jobe. The man looks like a young Don Draper from that hit TV show Mad Men. And then he teams up with another guy with legendary status, Dennis Lajola. It's just not fair. This is why old washed-up players like Brad Lum-Tucker and Jesse Paer, to name a few, now just show up dressed like hobos hoping that someone will give them a Blue Moon beer ticket out of pity.
Cutback to Dennis Lajola. Rumor has it that Dennis will be the next contestant on NBC's "the Bachelor" where a baker's dozen of beautiful single women will throw themselves at him in hopes of being "the one". Season premiere on that is September 4th or so on NBC at 8 p.m. HST, so do tune in. I believe one episode will be filmed here at KRC this week, probably the night of the finals, but no one knows for sure, so be here all week if you want to make a cameo appearance on NBC.
The list goes on from there, as #2 seeds Maatta & Tribler pretty much look like Scandinavian incarnations of James Bond, so let's just call them Double-Trouble-O-Seven. Shots come off their strings like the latest secret weapons issued by Q at MI-6.
Then you've got the #3 seeds Bode & Petrov who look like they've just stepped off the fashion runways of Milan and onto the tennis courts of KRC.
An anonymous source has disclosed that #4 seeds Marcel Chan Jr. & Carter Lam both took summer jobs at Abercrombie & Fitch. These young studs from UH are the younger/faster/stronger/smarter generation that we all knew were coming.
I could go on down the list but being that this is already a bit long winded, let’s just stop here before it gets too out of control. Enjoy the show this week!
